Prominent ear (Local Anesthesia)

Ear aesthetic surgery is mostly performed to correct the prominent ear condition. Prominent ear surgery is recommended before starting primary school. It is a surgery that is recommended to be performed around the age of 5, when the ear cartilage also completes its development, in order to prevent the child from being a mockery among his friends and to prevent him from being adversely affected by this situation.

If prominent ear surgery was not performed in childhood, it can be easily performed in later ages. While general anesthesia is preferred in children, the operation will be performed under local anesthesia in adults. In the operation, the cartilage causing the deformity is reshaped. Since incisions are made behind the ear, there will be no visible scar. Depending on the deformity and the technique applied, it is necessary to wear a hair band for a while.
Apart from the prominent ear, interventions are made for the deformities of the ear due to congenital or subsequent trauma and diseases. Excessive expansion and tearing of earring holes can also be corrected with very simple local interventions.

Operation Process

If the patients complain about the shape of the ears, the necessary examination is made and the operation is planned. We can explain the questions about the surgery as follows:
* Depending on the age and general health of the patient, prominent ear aesthetics will be performed under local or general anesthesia
* Thanks to the effect of anesthesia, the patient won’t feel pain during the surgery.
* An incision will be applied to the back of the ear and the cartilage tissue will be formed from this incision area.
It
is ensured that the ears are positioned closer to the base of the skull.
* The operation will be completed by suturing the incision site.
* After the operation, the ears will be wrapped so that the shape gained by the surgery can be preserved.
* Reducing the large earlobes during the operation can also be performed.
* The procedure does not require clinical rest, the patients can go home on the same day of discharge.
* There might be mild nausea and headache on the day of the operation. It is not the surgery that causes this, but the anesthesia applied before the surgery.

* After the Operation

First of all, we can state that the recovery process after the operation is not very difficult for the patients. We can give a short list of those who are curious about the process:
* The dressings will be opened in 4 days after the surgery for the prominent ear.
* There is no harm in taking a shower after the dressing is opened.
* Approximately 4 weeks after the operation, the ear area should be protected with a special tape. While the tape is sometimes used only at night, some patients may need to use it day and night.
* The duration of use of the tape may vary depending on the deformity of the patient.
* There may be swelling and tenderness in the treated area during the first few weeks. This is to be expected and there is no need to worry.
* After the operation, daily life is quickly returned and patients do not need to rest for a long time.
* After the operation, the drugs prescribed by the doctor should be used regularly against the risk of infection.
* Should be taken carefully not to get any blows to the ear area after the operation. Taking a blow may cause the position of the ears to deteriorate.
